What is Khanapara Teer?

Khanapara Teer is one of the oldest and most followed traditional archery games in Northeast India, played daily in Meghalaya for generations. The game is legally regulated in Meghalaya under the state’s Amusements and Betting Tax Act, and is organized by licensed archery clubs at Themmarwet, near East Khanapara in the Ri-Bhoi district.

While Khanapara Teer is officially conducted and regulated only in Meghalaya, its popularity has spread informally to neighbouring Assam, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh, where thousands of people check the Khanapara result every day to see if their number has come up.

How is the Khanapara Teer Result Decided?

Unlike a machine-drawn lottery, Khanapara Teer results come from real archery. Licensed archers shoot a large number of arrows — often around a thousand — at a target within a fixed time window. Once shooting stops, officials count exactly how many arrows struck the target.

Example

If 1,000 arrows are shot and 540 hit the target, only the last two digits — “40” — become the declared result for that round.

Players choose a two-digit number in advance, based on their own judgment or a mix of common practices (covered later on this page). If their number matches the final count, they receive a payout — typically 70 to 80 times their original stake.

For many regular players, the day starts before the main afternoon game — with the Khanapara Morning session. It follows the same archery format, and some players like to note the morning numbers simply out of habit or curiosity before the afternoon draw, though there’s no proven link between the two.

Keep your receipt safe — it’s your only proof of the bet and is required to claim any prize.
